This series draws inspiration from Ecuador’s rich cultural and artistic heritage. Each poster explores a unique theme, from the vibrant dancers of Ecuador’s carnival—wearing colorful attire with religious and cultural symbolism—to the concept of Horror Vacui, an homage to Baroque influence during the colonial era. This theme is reimagined as a reflection on the impact of European aesthetics on indigenous cultures.
A key piece, It’s Been a Century Since the Cry of Cari Catura, revisits Ecuador’s historic caricatures and the publication El Grito del Pueblo. Through Photoshop, I refined archival illustrations, and with Illustrator, I vectorized and enhanced the quality of these images, bringing them into a modern, high-resolution format. This allowed me to create a subjective, sometimes fictional, reinterpretation that honors the humor and artistry of Ecuadorian press while adding a contemporary narrative layer.
Each poster showcases the synthesis of design tools with cultural exploration, creating a visually compelling homage to Ecuador’s history and artistic evolution.
